New Hampshire Grand Families, INC
A Different Definition for Us ALL
NH Grand Families INC was created to support NH Caregivers raising others biological children.
The state has fallen short of helping family and friends who have stepped up for these children who would have otherwise been put into the foster care system with strangers.

Our mission is to help navigate through the paperwork when they are trying to find the help they need, food to help with the extra mouths to feed, and respite care for the caregivers.

We want them to know they are not alone

Founder/President
Tawna Fisher
I have been a resident of Unity, NH for over 30 years. I am blessed with three wonderful children and am a proud grandmother to a beautiful granddaughter and three very special grandsons. I love traveling and cherish the time spent with my children and grandchildren. Helping others in need is a cause close to my heart. In 2018, my youngest son (grandnephew) came into my life at birth, inspiring me to advocate for the changes that many kinship caregivers need.

I am a proud grandmother and have been joyfully married to my husband for 25 years. Together, we’ve embraced the rewarding responsibility of being permanent guardians to our youngest granddaughter. She has become a shining light in our lives, filling them with joy despite the obstacles we’ve encountered. Although my daughter faces challenges with addiction, our focus remains on creating a nurturing and stable home for our granddaughter—a commitment we hold close to our hearts and wouldn’t trade for anything.

Originally from Rhode Island, I've been living in New Hampshire for over a decade now. I cherish the slow pace of small-town life and the way the community comes together to support one another. I'm a mother of two grown children and a proud grandmother of seven. Currently, I'm fostering four of my grandchildren, who are wonderfully energetic and resilient. We enjoy road trips, fishing, swimming, and even gold panning. NHGF has been a tremendous support for us, and now I am committed to paying it forward by standing up and supporting families facing similar challenges.

Vice President
Meredith Carey
I live in Walpole, NH with my husband of 25 years, Craig, and our five wonderful children, four of whom are adopted. The youngest three are Kinship adoptions.
With a background in education, I’ve been a teacher and served as President of the PTA at my children’s school. I also managed a play group of over 500 families, hosting 80+ events monthly.
I enjoy crafting, planning events, and volunteering to make a difference. My greatest goal is raising my children to be compassionate, ambitious, and well-rounded individuals who care about others.

Director
Deb Tickel
Nestled in the charming town of Deering, NH, I share my home with my loving partner and my spirited 5-year-old grandson, who joined our family in 2021. As a proud mother of four and stepmother to one, I’ve been blessed with an incredible legacy of 13 grandchildren who bring endless joy to our lives.
Currently, I embrace the rewarding role of a stay-at-home grandmother, working remotely to ensure I can provide the best possible care for my grandson. My journey into kinship caregiving began in 2021 when I was granted guardianship, a path that led me to the compassionate community of NH GrandFamilies.
NH GrandFamilies has been a lifeline of support, connecting me with a network of fellow caregivers who share similar experiences and challenges. They’ve fostered a sense of belonging and provided invaluable resources to those navigating the unique joys and trials of raising grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Today, I am honored to give back to this remarkable organization by helping other families chart their own course as kinship caregivers. Through shared strength and solidarity, we’re building a brighter future for the next generation—together.
Our Mission
What We Believe In
It is so easy to fall into a pattern of apathy as we go through our lives. Our organization was born out of a commitment to stop passing over the real issues of society, and deal with them head on. We have set out to aid those who need it most. NH Grand Families is here to help, and we believe that change is possible when we put our hearts and minds to it.
